BURTON ISD COMMENDED FOR ACHIEVEMENTS IN FARM FRESH CHALLENGE
Burton ISD has been recognized by Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller for working to support homegrown foods and healthy kids through the Texas Department of Agriculture’s 2023 Farm Fresh Challenge.
The challenge is part of Miller’s Texas Farm Fresh Initiative, helping schools connect with agricultural producers while ensuring students learn about where their food comes from and who produces it.
The district’s child nutrition team was commended for bringing in local farm fresh products, including milk, fresh grown salad mix, green beans, summer squash and pepper strips. They also shared farm fresh activity sheets with elementary students weekly for the month of October.
The Burton ISD nutrition team has pledged to serve more Texas products, offer agricultural learning activities and share their Farm Fresh efforts on social media.
Miller said each year, through the challenge, Texas schools have a great opportunity to help kids learn about healthy eating.
Burton ISD Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy said she is “so proud” of the district’s child nutrition team.
