BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD RE-OPENS SUPT. SEARCH FOR INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY

Brenham ISD is resuming its search for a new superintendent, but only for internal applicants.

The decision was made unanimously by the Brenham School Board following an executive session during its meeting on Monday.  The motion was made by Archer Archer and seconded by Kyle Hafner.

Brenham ISD Communications Director Brooke Trahan said moving forward, the superintendent position will be posted internally and includes adhering to minimum timeline statutes, which dictate that the position must be posted for a minimum of 10 days.  Following that, the board may proceed to select and interview candidates while maintaining their confidentiality.

The role of acting superintendent has belonged to Clay Gillentine since October, after the departure of Dr. Tylor Chaplin.  Gillentine formerly worked as the assistant superintendent for administrative services.

In November, the school board decided to pause the search for a new superintendent until the spring.  The district hired the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) in August to lead the search effort.

Should the board select a candidate, it can name a lone finalist.  Per Texas Government Code 552.126, the name of the lone finalist being considered must be publicized at least 21 days prior to the meeting where a final vote will be taken regarding that candidate’s employment.
