BRENHAM JUNIOR HIGH BANDS EARN TOP RATING
Both the Brenham Junior High 6th Period Concert Band, and the Brenham Junior High Symphonic Band attended the UIL Concert and Sightreading Evaluation.
The event was held on Tuesday at Waller High School.
According to Band Director Karla Rettig, both bands represented Brenham Junior High and Brenham ISD at the highest level.
They earned 1st division “Superior” ratings from all six judges, which is the highest rating a band can earn at any UIL event.
Rettig said the bands began work on three contest pieces when they returned from the Christmas break to perfect them for a stage performance.
Bands are judged on things such as tone quality, technical achievement, balance, and other performance skills.
In the sightreading portion, students are given 7 or 8 minutes to learn a piece of music that they have never seen before. After the instructional period, the students have to perform the piece as close to concert ready as possible.
