BIG CROWDS EXPECTED FOR BLUE BELL FUN RUN SATURDAY

Washington County is expecting to see an influx of thousands of people during tomorrow’s (Saturday) Blue Bell Fun Run.

City of Brenham Public Works Director Dane Rau told the city council during its meeting on Thursday that an estimated 5,000 runners will participate, with another 2,500 spectators and family members on hand.

Rau said organizers of the Fun Run have met with local law enforcement, firefighters and EMS to make sure everyone is prepared to handle the large crowds and increase in traffic.  He asked the public to be mindful of runners while the event is going on, particularly any residents who live around the race path.

The run will start and finish at Brenham High School.  Participants will park and be shuttled over from the Washington County Expo.  There will be four events, beginning with the half-marathon at 7:30 a.m., then the kids’ mile at 8 a.m., 10K at 8:30 a.m. and 5K at 9:30 a.m.

This is the 46th installment of the Blue Bell Fun Run, which started in 1978 as a way to benefit the Brenham High School athletic program.  This past year, the event’s sponsoring organization, Run for the Youth of Washington County, donated $77,500 to Brenham ISD.

  1. The run was over at around 11:30 AM. The Signs were picked up. Empty water bottles, paper cups, ice cream wrappers still adorn the sides of N Park St. Thanks for picking up the signs.
