SEVEN CRASH CALLS AMONG NINE TOTAL FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT. ON THURSDAY

A wet Thursday led to a busy day for the Brenham Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to nine calls throughout the day.  Seven of those were crash calls.

Shortly after 9 a.m., the department was dispatched to a crash in the 3400 block of Highway 36 North, where firefighters found an 18-wheeler bobtail in the ditch.  Units ensured no fluids were leaking and provided traffic control until they were released by law enforcement.

Just before 10 a.m., firefighters were called out to the 3400 block of Highway 36 North again for a crash, this one a two-vehicle accident.  The department provided traffic control and removed debris from the roadway, returning to service once the vehicles were removed.  The department says two people were transported, but the extent of their injuries is unknown.

Approaching 5 p.m., BFD members responded to a crash with entrapment along Highway 290 at Wonder Hill Road.  They found a two-vehicle accident with one person who got out of the vehicle on their own.  Units stood by until the Salem Volunteer Fire Department arrived on location and released them from the scene.

Other crash calls were around 4:30 p.m. at FM 389 and Longwood Drive, at 5:45 p.m. in the 400 block of Highway 290 West, just before 7 p.m. on South Day Street at Highway 290, and at 10:15 p.m. at the Highway 290 cloverleaf.  For these calls, the department reported either that it was released from the scene by Brenham police upon making location, or that the crash could not be located.

The other two calls on Thursday were for a report of a grass fire on South Berlin Road shortly before 8:45 a.m. and a telephone wire that fell at Giddings Street and Lee Street just after 12:30 p.m.

The fire department also had one call at 4:45 a.m. today (Friday) for a fire investigation at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, 700 Medical Parkway.  Units arrived on location and found nothing showing from the building.  Personnel advised the fire department that they could smell it down one of the hallways, but after checking the area, firefighters could not locate where the smell was coming from.
