BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER ORDINANCE FOR CITY-OWNED WATER WELLS
Two non-routine action items await the Brenham City Council when it meets on Thursday.
One order of business will be an ordinance setting rules and regulations regarding sanitation and pollution control of the areas in proximity to the city’s public water supply wells.
The ordinance creates requirements to secure land located within 155 feet of city-owned water wells from pollution hazards and to comply with all applicable state and local regulations. It is intended to prevent certain uses or the construction of facilities on land surrounding the water wells that may create danger of pollution.
The ordinance is a requirement by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for construction of a public water source. It comes as the city proceeds with plans to revitalize an existing water well at Loesch Street and build a second well.
The other item will be a public hearing and vote on granting a specific use permit to allow an accessory dwelling unit on property in the 500 block of Walnut Hill Drive, in an R-1 single-family residential use zoning district. The Brenham Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved the request at its meeting on March 25th.
After regular session, the council will go into executive session to consult with the city attorney on matters involving the Brenham Municipal Airport. No action is expected to be taken.
The council will meet Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
