WASHINGTON CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE SEARCHING FOR SUSPECTS AFTER HOMEOWNER SHOT DURING VEHICLE BURGLARY
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is searching for those responsible after a resident was shot during a reported vehicle burglary early this (Thursday) morning.
The sheriff’s office says it responded around 3 a.m. to a burglary of a vehicle call in the 6300 block of Rehburg Road, northeast of Burton, in which shots were fired.
The homeowner told deputies he was alerted to activity in his driveway. As he left his residence, he was shot and wounded in his lower extremities by the suspects, of which the sheriff’s office believes there are two involved.
The homeowner returned fire, and the suspects fled to an awaiting pickup truck parked on Rehburg Road.
The victim was treated at the scene and transported by Washington County EMS to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in College Station. He is listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
Deputies and assisting law enforcement agencies are conducting an area-wide search. The case is currently under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigation Division and the Texas Rangers. Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest or conviction of any suspects involved.
The sheriff’s office encourages everyone to always remove their keys and any valuables from their vehicles.
Still think we need to be spending nearly 10 million on EMS instead of the Sheriff’s Department being properly outfitted with more patrol units. Shame on the WCC court. Prayers for the homeowner for his quick recovery. Should not have to risk your life at your own home. Well at 10 million a year since the homeowner survived he got quality care and the driver of the ambulance was on candid camera so you had a safe trip to the ER good grief!
“The Washington County Sheriff’s Office believes there are two suspects involved.” Maybe there are 2 suspects involved in this shooting, but there are clearly more people involved in the vehicle burglaries that are ongoing in Washington and Lee Counties.
Wild, Wild, West
Wow. This is so scary. Prayers for the families effected by this horrific incident. This is hitting to close to us AND happening WAY to often.
Thank you to all the law enforcement officers helping to catch the thieves.
Once you have been a victim, you will forever feel “violated”. I know from experience.
May the crooks be caught and justice prevail.
I am sorry.
