ALL WASHINGTON CO. SALES TAX REBATES UP IN MAY

  

All Washington County entities reported growth this month for sales and tax distributions.

For Washington County, it received $474,751 in May, an increase of 1.12 percent from when it collected $469,487 in May 2023.  Over the course of the year so far, the county’s rebate totals are down by 1.87 percent from last year, at $1,963,864 compared to $2,001,449.

The City of Brenham brought in $966,108 this month, a 9.25 percent improvement from the $884,230 received in May of last year.  So far in 2024, the city’s receipts are $4,263,413, up 8.69 percent from a year ago, when its total was $3,922,511.

The City of Burton had another strong month as it received $15,846, which is 41.97 percent more than its rebate of $11,161 last May.  The city’s collections so far this year continue to greatly outpace what they were at this time last year, tallying $82,856 versus $48,799, growth of 69.78 percent.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported that the state paid out $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations this month, up 0.4 percent from last May and up 1.7 percent for the year to date.

  1. I don’t know why in this country we just do away with all the 501c and all other tax breaks and just have a flat tax where everyone pays 10 percent and the politicians have to use whatever is collected and not just keep printing money! Term limits for all politicians would also help I think?
