Wednesday for fallen peace officers.

The Washington County Peace Officers Association led the service as part of Peace Officers Memorial Day, observed on May 15th of each year to acknowledge the local, state and federal officers who have died in the line of duty.

Daniel Gaskamp of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office led the memorial.  Gaskamp stated that 137 officers died in the United States in 2023, including 37 from Texas.  He talked about their roles as spouses, parents and community members who took an oath to serve and who laid down their lives for that goal.
