VIKKI CURRY NAMED LONE FINALIST FOR BURTON ISD SUPT.

The Burton School Board has selected a lone finalist to serve as Burton ISD’s next superintendent.

Vikki Curry
(Galveston ISD)

Vikki Curry was unanimously named as the district’s top candidate, following an executive session at a special board meeting on Monday.

Curry has 30 years of experience in education and is currently serving as the assistant superintendent for teaching and learning at Galveston ISD, a post she has held since July 2021.  In that role, she has overseen the development and delivery of curriculum and instruction, monitored and evaluated instructional programs, and actively helped develop campus improvement plans.

Prior to Curry’s existing position, she served in Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction and as a principal.  She was also an assistant principal in Spring ISD and a teacher in Galveston ISD.

A total of 38 candidates were considered for the position.  Burton School Board President Jeff Harmel said Curry “stood out as both an exceptional administrator, and as the best fit for Burton ISD in regard to experience and skill.”

The board's decision Monday comes after it approved a voluntary retirement agreement on March 19th with former superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy, who had served in the district since 2015.  She has since been named the lone finalist for superintendent in Dime Box ISD

The Burton School Board must wait 21 days from Monday’s meeting before officially hiring Curry as superintendent.
