SUSPECT DIES AFTER ALLEGED BURGLARY ATTEMPT IN NAVASOTA
An alleged burglary suspect is dead following a physical altercation with local residents in Navasota early Tuesday morning.
Navasota Police were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 700 Block of Doris Street around 1:15am.
Officers arrived on the scene to find a large crowd gathered. Witnesses said that a male subject made forced entry into an apartment without consent, ran through the apartment, and assaulted one of its residents.
Others inside the apartment forcefully removed the male subject from the inside. A physical altercation occurred between the residents and the subject, who left the scene prior to the officers’ arrival.
According to Navasota Police, a family member located the subject in a grassy field that was two blocks away from the apartment complex.
Officers said he was unable to stand on his own and mumbling. When they tried to take him into custody, the man resisted, and had to be detained.
Paramedics were called to the scene after the subject lost consciousness. CPR was immediately given at their location.
The male suspect was transported to the Grimes St. Joseph Hospital in Navasota, where he was later pronounced dead around 2:30am.
The identity is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.
The Navasota Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and the Texas Rangers are investigating the case.
