MARK DONOVAN NAMED BRENHAM’S NEW FIRE CHIEF
The Brenham Fire Department has named a new fire chief.
The City of Brenham on Wednesday announced the appointment of Mark Donovan to the position.
Donovan is a retired assistant chief of the Houston Fire Department, where he worked for over 29 years. He currently serves as assistant chief with Harris County Emergency Services District (ESD) 48 in Katy.
At the ESD, Donovan has been responsible for the daily operations of the fire suppression division, which included full-time, part-time and volunteer firefighters. He also directed the department’s training division and was responsible for the fire suppression division’s planning, procurement and budgeting.
Donovan, who relocated to Brenham with his wife, Diedra, in June 2023, will start his new position at the Brenham Fire Department on Monday.
Rhea Cooper has led the department in the interim since January, after the resignation in October of former chief Roger Williams and the retirement of Brian Scheffer as assistant chief.
Donovan says he is “deeply humbled” to serve in his own community and looks forward to working with the members of the fire department and the city as a whole.
