(Grimes Co. Jail)

The Waller County Sheriff’s Office announced the charge today (Tuesday) against 29-year-old Joshua Land, who was arrested in Grimes County on June 1st as the result of a separate investigation into the shooting and killing of a dog in the parking lot of a Navasota convenience store that morning.

The Navasota Police Department requested a welfare check on June 3rd for Land’s father, who lives in Waller, as part of the shooting investigation.  Officers with the Waller Police Department informed Navasota police soon after that Land’s father was found deceased, and the scene had been turned over to the Waller County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau to investigate as a homicide.

A neighbor who lived close by Joshua Land’s father in Waller told the Navasota Examiner that police found the body of Larry Land around noon on June 3rd, and that he had been shot.

Prior to the discovery of his father’s body and the issuing of the murder charge, Joshua Land was in custody at the Grimes County Jail on $25,000 bond.

Navasota police continue to meet with the Waller County Sheriff’s Office to review evidence and assist in their investigation.
