JULY SALES TAX REBATES DOWN IN WASHINGTON CO.

  

July was a down month for sales and tax distributions across Washington County.

Washington County’s rebate this month was $353,407, down 10.49 percent from the $394,862 received in July 2023.  The county’s collections so far this year are down 2.71 percent from last year, at $2,703,638 compared to $2,779,088.

The City of Brenham brought in $765,784 for July, a 4.44 percent decline from last July, when the city received $801,398.  The city’s receipts for the year to this point total $5,851,100, up 7.41 percent from the $5,447,007 taken in through this time last year.

For the City of Burton, its July rebate of $7,404 is down 13.95 percent from the $8,605 it received in July of a year ago.  So far this year, the city’s year-to-date rebate total is $98,935, up 50.4 percent from the $65,778 tallied through July 2023.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported that the state paid out $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations this month, down 0.2 percent from last July but still up 2.1 percent when compared to last year.
