HOME IN LATIUM LOST IN FIRE

  

Washington County and Austin County fire departments spent several hours on Friday battling a large house fire in the Latium area.

Incident Commander and Rocky Creek Volunteer Fire Chief Tim Mantey says shortly after 12:45 p.m., the Latium-Wesley-Greenvine Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched along with Austin County for a structure fire at a home in the 13000 block of Sawmill Road.

Requests were soon made for additional assistance.  The Burton, Berlin, Rocky Creek, Washington, Salem, Shelby, Industry and Bleiblerville Volunteer Fire Departments were called for aid via water tenders or extra manpower.  Units remained on scene until 7 p.m.

The house was deemed a total loss, but firefighters were able to save two adjacent structures.   

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
