UNEMPLOYMENT RATES INCREASE FOR AREA COUNTIES IN JUNE

  

Much of the area reported an increase in unemployment for the month of June.

Per the Texas Workforce Commission, Washington County’s jobless rate grew from 3.6 percent in May to 4.4 percent in June.

The county’s number of unemployed residents jumped from 591 in May to 729 last month.

Overall employment grew by a smaller margin over that time, from 15,904 in May to 15,970 in June.  The total civilian labor force rose from 16,495 in May to 16,699 a month ago. 

In June 2023, the county reported an unemployment rate of 4.8 percent, with 778 people out of work.

The state’s unemployment rate stayed the same at 4 percent. 

Across the area, June’s jobless rates include:

  • Austin County – 4 percent, up from 3.4 percent in May.
  • Brazos County – 3.6 percent, up from 2.9 percent.
  • Burleson County – 4.1 percent, up from 3.3 percent.
  • Fayette County – 3.7 percent, up from 3 percent in May. 
  • Grimes County – 4.9 percent, up from 3.9 percent.
  • Lee County – 3.6 percent, up from 3 percent.
  • Waller County – 5.6 percent, up from 4.5 percent.
