A Grimes County man has been sentenced to prison for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

(Grimes Co. Jail)

According to a release on Monday from the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office, 31-year-old Gage Anthony Stringo pleaded guilty on July 12th before 12th District Judge David Moorman.  He was handed down a 10-year prison sentence.

Stringo was arrested on November 5th after a Grimes County Sheriff’s deputy learned during an encounter with Stringo in Todd Mission that he was not registered as a sex offender with the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, Stringo had last registered with the Magnolia Police Department in April 2020 after a prior conviction out of Montgomery County for Indecency with a Child.  The conviction requires Stringo to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.

Under state law, sex offenders are required to report their place of residence to local law enforcement no more than seven days after they arrive.  Investigators interviewed Todd Mission residents, who confirmed Stringo had been living there for several years.

Grimes County District Attorney Andria Bender said her office has seen multiple cases where sex offenders committed new offenses while out of compliance or unregistered.  She said Grimes County prosecutors are strict on these cases because the county considers this “a matter of public safety.”

Stringo is currently in custody at the Grimes County Jail.
