NAVASOTA PD: CHILD STRUCK BY STRAY BULLET IN EARLY MORNING SHOOTING

  

Navasota police report a child was taken to the hospital this (Friday) morning after being struck by a stray bullet.

According to a release from the Navasota Police Department, officers responded at around 5:30 a.m. to the 600 block of FM 1227 for a report of shots fired and an injured juvenile. 

Police arrived and discovered that a female juvenile living in the area had been struck by a bullet.  She was transported to a hospital in Bryan with minor injuries.

Investigators found evidence of the shooting in the roadway southeast of the apartment complex in the 700 block of Doris Street.  They observed gunshot damage to several vehicles and an apartment wall.

As of this morning, FM 1227 is closed to 18-wheeler traffic from Washington Avenue to FM 379, and all other vehicle traffic is closed on FM 379 from Doris Street to Roosevelt Street, in order to allow authorities to investigate.  Update: Roads were reopened as of 10:45 a.m.

Police have not yet identified a suspect.
