WASHINGTON CO. FAIR ANNOUNCES QUEEN COURT, MUSIC LINEUP AT VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION NIGHT

The 156th edition of the Washington County Fair formally gets underway in just over a month, but Saturday night was the unofficial kick-off with the fair’s Volunteer Appreciation Night.

The 2024 Washington County Fair Queen
candidates are (from left) Makenzie Wehmeyer,
Avila Colanter, Paige Marth and Kinley Antkowiak.

The evening recognized fair volunteers and contributors for the work they put in to organize the event every year.  It also introduced the public to the 2024 fair queen court and announced the suite of musical entertainers coming to the fair this year.

The four fair queen candidates are Makenzie Wehmeyer, Avila Colanter, Paige Marth and Kinley Antkowiak.

Wehmeyer is a senior and is homeschooled, representing Washington County 4-H.  Her parents are Brandon and Brandie Wehmeyer.  She says the fair means a significant deal to Washington County and that she is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it.

Colanter is a senior at Grace Lutheran High School who is representing Grace Lutheran High School Athletics.  Her parents are Eddie and Britt Colanter.  While she has only been involved with the fair for a few years, she has already come to love it and views it as a great way to connect with the community.

Marth is a junior at Brenham High School who is representing Washington County 4-H.  Her parents are Brandon and Kristie Marth.  She says from her days showing her cat in the pet show to moving into the ring with her chickens, she is always amazed at the way the community comes together at the fair.

Antkowiak is a senior at Brenham High School who is representing Brenham Athletics.  Her parents are James and Kelly Antkowiak.  She says her favorite event of the fair is the livestock sale, getting to see firsthand the outpouring of support that exhibitors receive with their projects.

The fair queen will be crowned on Saturday, September 14th at 6 p.m. at the Washington County Expo Entertainment Pavilion.  The music lineup will open that night with the Texas Unlimited Band.

Tejano Night on Wednesday, September 18th will host De Parranda.

Thursday, September 19th will feature Jeff Woolsey and the Dancehall Kings.

On Friday, September 20th, Tanner Usrey will lead for Pecos & The Rooftops.

To close out the fair on Saturday, September 21st, Tyler Reese Tritt will open for her father, Travis Tritt.

Season tickets for the fair are now on sale.  They can be purchased from the fair queen candidates or at www.washingtoncofair.com
