ONE PERSON HOSPITALIZED AFTER A TRAFFIC CRASH IN CHAPPELL HILL
One person was hospitalized after a pickup truck struck a pole in Chappell Hill Tuesday afternoon.
According to Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department Captain Dustin Brown, it is believed that the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed near the intersection of Highway 290 and FM 1155, when the truck struck a pole, and caught fire.
Emergency crews were dispatched just before 12:30pm.
Brown said that one patient was taken by helicopter to the hospital for further medical treatment.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames, but the truck was a total loss.
As of 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, the traffic light was still not in operation. Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling through that area. Update @ 11:15 a.m. Wednesday: TxDOT - Bryan District Public Information Officer Bob Colwell said a signal crew made repairs to the signal and had the system operational around 7 p.m. Tuesday. However, further repairs are necessary and are being discussed with a contractor.
The cause of the crash is under a further investigation.
