(Chappell Hill VFD)

One person was hospitalized after a pickup truck struck a pole in Chappell Hill Tuesday afternoon.

According to Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department Captain Dustin Brown, it is believed that the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed near the intersection of Highway 290 and FM 1155, when the truck struck a pole, and caught fire.

Emergency crews were dispatched just before 12:30pm.

Brown said that one patient was taken by helicopter to the hospital for further medical treatment.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames, but the truck was a total loss.

As of 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, the traffic light was still not in operation.  Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling through that area. Update @ 11:15 a.m. Wednesday: TxDOT - Bryan District Public Information Officer Bob Colwell said a signal crew made repairs to the signal and had the system operational around 7 p.m. Tuesday. However, further repairs are necessary and are being discussed with a contractor.

The cause of the crash is under a further investigation.
