BLINN BOARD HOLDS QUICK MEETING

The Blinn Board of Trustees had little to discuss at a brief meeting on Tuesday.

The lone regular session item was to approve receipt of the Texas Cybersecurity Framework Cyber Maturity Assessment, which trustees did unanimously.

Blinn College Dean for Academic Technology Services Michael Welch said this is a biennial report, as Texas administrative code requires community colleges to complete a cybersecurity assessment.  Details of the assessment could not be presented in public since it involves security, but he said an executive committee forwarded its approval to trustees.

Other business at the meeting primarily consisted of reports, as the only other action item was the routine consent agenda.

Chancellor Dr. Mary Hensley welcomed back students and faculty for the start of the fall semester today (Wednesday).  She then spoke on progress with construction projects around the Blinn College District.  Specifically on the Brenham Campus, she said upgrades to the Academic Building are “substantially complete.”  The project improved the building’s corridors with new ceiling grids, tiles, lighting, paint and interior signage.

Vice Chancellor for Student Services Dr. Becky McBride presented an enrollment update pertaining to the 2024 Summer II semester, which ran from July 8th to August 5th

Overall uncertified enrollment for the Summer II session logged at 3,834 students, down 5.52 percent from the 4,058 who enrolled in the 2023 Summer II semester.  McBride noted, though, that the Summer II session was “greatly impacted” by Hurricane Beryl, as many students who lost power because of the storm ended up dropping their classes.  She also said some of those students have re-enrolled for this fall semester.
