BRENHAM ISD PARTICIPATING IN NATIONAL SCHOOL BREAKFAST/LUNCH PROGRAM

Brenham ISD has announced its policy for providing free and reduced-price meals to students.

Children are eligible for free or reduced-price meal benefits based on several categories.  The school district is distributing letters to households about eligibility benefits and any actions needed in order to apply for them.

Applications are available online at www.schoolcafe.com.  They can also be obtained in paper form at all campuses or at the Child Nutrition office at 1301 Niebuhr Street.

Applications may be submitted at any time during the school year.  Information provided by households will be used to determine eligibility.  The applications may also be verified by school officials at any time during the school year.

Brenham ISD is working with local agencies to identify all children who are categorically and program eligible.  The district will notify the households of those children that they do not need to complete an application.

If a household member becomes unemployed or the household size increases, they are encouraged to contact the school district, as such changes may make the children of the household eligible for benefits depending on income.

Under the provisions of the free and reduced-price meal policy, the application processor will review applications and determine eligibility.  Households or guardians who are dissatisfied with the reviewing official’s determination may discuss the decision with the official informally, but they may also make a formal appeal for a hearing with the superintendent.
