of 65.

Parker, whose four years as chief of the Brenham Police Department closed out a 40-year career in law enforcement, passed away on Sunday at the age of 65.

Parker joined the La Porte Police Department in 1984 and was appointed as chief in October 2018.  He came to Brenham in March 2020, serving as head of the Brenham police force until health complications led him to retire this past March.

In a statement, the City of Brenham said it extends its heartfelt condolences, saying, “His unwavering dedication to both the police force and to Brenham is something we will always cherish.  Chief Parker was not just a valued employee but also a dear friend.”

According to his obituary, Parker was affiliated with numerous organizations like the National Domestic Preparedness Coalition, Texas Police Chief's Association, and International Police Chief's Association.  He contributed to the field through publications with the Texas State Historical Society and held the title of Leadership Fellow with the Texas Municipal League's Inaugural Leadership Academy.  He was also an adjunct professor in criminal justice at Sam Houston State University.

City Manager Carolyn Miller said, “Chief Parker's commitment to our community went above and beyond.  He was a guiding light in our city, and his legacy of service and friendship will continue to inspire us all.”

The Brenham City Council held a ceremony in March to thank Parker for his service and wish him the best in retirement.

Lloyd Powell, who was promoted to Brenham Police Chief in July, wrote on social media that Parker was “a great mentor and friend” and “one of the best Chiefs I’ve had the privilege to work with.”

Parker is survived by his wife, Debbie, two children and six grandchildren.

A celebration of life for Parker will be held on Wednesday, September 4th at 10:30 a.m. at Cowboy Church of Brenham.
