NO ONE HURT AFTER TRAIN STRIKES 18-WHEELER IN LA GRANGE
No injuries are reported after a grocery delivery truck was hit by a train Thursday afternoon in La Grange.
La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath said the incident was called in shortly before 4:30 p.m. An 18-wheeler belonging to Performance Foodservice Group had just made a delivery to the Care Inn nursing home and was traveling south on Main Street when the trailer’s landing gear got caught on the railroad tracks.
The Fayette County Record reported that the driver of the 18-wheeler called for help, and authorities attempted to contact BNSF to stop the train, but it could not stop in time.
The truck’s driver and passenger got out before it was struck.
Gilbreath said it took several hours to clear the scene, as there was food “scattered everywhere”. The railroad crossing was back open around 10 p.m.
Assisting the La Grange Police Department were the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and DPS.
