ROUND-TOP CARMINE ISD CALLS TAX RATIFICATION ELECTION
Voters in Round Top-Carmine ISD will be able to participate in a tax ratification election.
In August, the Round Top-Carmine School Board approved an order for an election on November 5th to ratify the district’s maintenance and operations (M&O) property tax rate at $0.6969 per $100 valuation. According to Superintendent Brandon Schovajsa, the maximum M&O rate that could be adopted without an election is $0.6769.
The increased rate would generate an additional $178,366, or 2.8 percent, in M&O revenue compared to the previous year. The extra revenue would not be subject to the state’s recapture program, so the funding would stay in the district.
According to Schovajsa, Round Top-Carmine ISD sent just shy of $2.5 million back to the state through recapture this past year. The district’s 2023-24 approved budget was $5.8 million.
Schovajsa said district projects and goals include replacing several aging air conditioning units, increasing the septic system capacity at the elementary campus, and providing additional teacher and staff compensation.
The last day to register to vote in the November election is October 7th.
