LIFETIME LEARNING TO HOST WASHINGTON CO. READ RECEPTION OCT. 8

  

Lifetime Learning Brenham invites the public next week to the 16^th Annual Washington County READ event.

A free community reception will be held on Tuesday, October 8^th at 5:30 p.m. at Unity Theatre. 

The reception will host author Patti Callahan, whose novel, “Once Upon a Wardrobe”, is this year’s Washington County READ selection.  It will include a presentation from Callahan, a book signing, a dramatic reading and refreshments.

Lifetime Learning Publicity Chair Diane Kramer says, “If you—or your children or grandchildren—loved The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S Lewis, you’ll be enthralled by Callahan’s novel Once Upon a Wardrobe that unravels the origin of the beloved fantasyland Narnia.”

In the novel, eight-year-old George begs his older sister, Megs, a student at Oxford, to ask Lewis, an English professor, where Narnia comes from.  Instead of answering directly, Lewis provides a map of clues by telling stories of his own life.  Each time Megs returns home to share with George, they begin their retelling with “once upon a wardrobe, not very long ago, and not very far away.”

Callahan is a New York Times best-selling author of 17 books since 2004.  She has been the recipient of many awards, including the Harper Lee Distinguished Writer of the Year in 2020.
