97TH ANNUAL AUSTIN CO. FAIR BEGINS FRIDAY
Activities kick off tomorrow (Friday) at the 97th Annual Austin County Fair.
The fair runs through Sunday, October 13th at the Austin County Fairgrounds in Bellville. This year’s theme is “Rock Around the Stock”.
The schedule of events begins tomorrow with the start of the barbecue cook-off and the champion drive livestock show at 10 a.m. Saturday will have the Little Mister and Miss contest at 9 a.m., immediately followed by the Junior Mister and Miss and Junior Fair Queen contests. The Fair Queen will be crowned at 5:30 p.m.
The Fair Queen candidates are Carly Allen, Lylah Durrett, Taylor Eckelberg, Ally Estep, Ainsley Hancock, Kayleigh Kendrick, Kaitlyn Kloss, Eryn Kruzel, Alana Lindsay, Rylea Roecker and Samantha Weems.
Performing on Saturday will be The Delta Boyz and Augie Meyers at 8 p.m. Flaco Jiménez, who was also scheduled, will not be able to play due to unforeseen circumstances, so filling in at 10 p.m. will be an unannounced special guest described by the fair as a “Texas native entertainer”.
Livestock judging will open on Sunday and continue through Thursday, October 10th. Thursday will also feature the parade through downtown Bellville at 10 a.m. The grand marshal for the parade will be Alfred Hall Sr., a lifelong resident of San Felipe, fair supporter and community advocate.
The youth livestock auction will be held on Friday, October 11th at 10 a.m., with the youth supreme and country fair auction on Saturday, October 12th at 1 p.m.
Next week’s entertainment will include Little Texas at 8 p.m. and Aaron Watson at 10 p.m. on Thursday, October 10th; Austin Snell at 8 p.m. and Corey Kent at 10 p.m. on Friday, October 11th; and Walker Montgomery at 9 p.m. and the Randy Rogers Band at 11 p.m. on Saturday, October 12th.
Along with the music, the fair will have a carnival, rodeo events, comedy shows, a petting zoo and pet show, a country store, and a wine show.
