NAVASOTA WATER WELL SAMPLES TEST POSITIVE FOR E. COLI

The City of Navasota public water system has removed two water wells from use after samples taken from them tested positive for E. coli.

A press release says the city was notified today (Friday) of the positive test results, and that the wells were immediately removed from use.  They have been isolated from the water system and will remain shut down until test results show they are negative.

Water from the wells is disinfected with chlorine at the water treatment plant prior to distribution.  The city says all distribution samples are currently in compliance with state safety standards, and drinking water is safe to consume.  Boiling water is not required.

The city anticipates resolving the problem within 10 days.
