WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO RECOGNIZE LONG-SERVING EMPLOYEES & RETIREES

Washington County Commissioners will recognize several officials and county employees on Tuesday.

The court will first acknowledge employees who have reached benchmarks for years of service, ranging from 5 to 30 years.  It will then honor employees and elected officials who are retiring or departing from office at the end of the year.

Commissioners will also act on a letter from Precinct 1 Constable Ken Holle requesting Dairius Smith be named the new deputy constable for Holle’s office.

Current deputy constable Brad Kuecker will begin his elected term in January as Precinct 3 Constable.  Smith was appointed to fill that post in the interim in October 2023, after previous Precinct 3 Constable David Blakey resigned in order to run for county sheriff.

If approved, Smith would be sworn in on January 1st as the direct replacement for Kuecker.  His responsibilities will remain as traffic enforcement and warrants, as well as any and all duties required by the office.

In other items, the court will:

  • Potentially accept annual bid items for right-of-way mowing, culverts, drive bridge piling, fuel, oils and asphalts, road construction material, tires, steel products, contract hauling, and emergency debris and tree/limb removal.
  • Vote on a right-of-way permit application for the SGT Texas Outlaws trail ride on January 11th.
  • Discuss a formal notice from Magnolia Oil & Gas for a temporary lay flat along the county right-of-way of Rehburg Road in Precinct 3.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
