BROOKELAND MAN DIES IN WASHINGTON COUNTY TRAFFIC CRASH
A Brookeland, Texas man has been identified as the person killed in a one vehicle traffic crash that occurred over the weekend in Washington County.
According to DPS Sergeant Justin Ruiz, the accident happened on Saturday at 8:40am on Highway 290 at FM 2679.
82-year-old Robert Phipps was traveling westbound in a 2018 Lincoln MKX along Highway 290.
Ruiz said the vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason, struck a culvert, vaulted, and flipped end over end.
Phipps, who was ejected from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation determined that he was wearing his seat belt with a seat belt extender, but seat belt extender had failed.
