The senior pastor of Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church in Brenham and his wife are marking 25 years of service.

Missionary Baptist Church was honored with a
proclamation on Tuesday during Washington
County Commissioners Court. The proclamation
declared February 11th as Reverend Dr. John D.
Harris Day.
Reverend Dr. John D. Harris and Sister Helen Harris were presented proclamations last week by the Brenham City Council and on Tuesday by Washington County Commissioners, recognizing their contributions both to the church and the county as a whole.
Dr. Harris, speaking during commissioners court on Tuesday, said he is grateful to be a part of this community.

Dr. Harris has been senior pastor at Mt. Rose since 2001. Sister Harris has taken on various roles at the church in that time, including as a program committee chair, Sunday school superintendent and Bible study teacher.
Both Dr. Harris and Sister Harris have also been involved for many years at Blinn College, with Dr. Harris serving as a vice president for student services and academic advisor, and Sister Harris as a mathematics instructor. In addition, Dr. Harris has been a member of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, Brenham Housing Authority Board of Commissioners and Washington County Ministerial Alliance.
Mt. Rose will celebrate the Harris’ anniversary on Sunday at 11:15 a.m. at the church, 204 Kerr Street, and at 3 p.m. at the Blinn College Student Center Banquet Room, 1007 West Second Street.
