REP. WHARTON NAMED TO HOUSE CORRECTIONS, INSURANCE COMMITTEES
New State Representative Trey Wharton has received his first set of committee appointments in the Texas House.
House Speaker Dustin Burrows today (Thursday) released his list of committee appointments, with Wharton being named to the corrections and insurance committees.
The committee on corrections has jurisdiction over matters relating to the incarceration and rehabilitation of convicted felons and the establishment and maintenance of programs that provide alternatives to incarceration. It oversees the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, the Special Prosecution Unit, the Board of Pardons and Paroles, and the Texas Correctional Office on Offenders with Medical or Mental Impairments.
The committee on insurance presides over issues pertaining to the policies and practices of insurance and the insurance industry in Texas, as well as the Texas Department of Insurance.
Wharton said he is grateful to be appointed to these committees and looks forward to “learning from stakeholders, contributing my experience, and helping to develop meaningful, common-sense policies.”
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick announced the Texas Senate committee appointments last month. State Senator Lois Kolkhorst was chosen to chair the committee on health and human services and serve on the committees for administration, business and commerce, finance, and water, agriculture and rural affairs.
We need to find out why many of these rural hospitals are run by those individuals with ownership of nursing homes that many of which are not well run like they should be run and yet they run hospitals too! This is not common sense and may be a vessel for Medicare fraud in my opinion and they run the hospitals in the ground so can buy them cheap and turn them into poorly run nursing homes. We the people then are forced to go to city hospitals. There is a bunch of foreign investors in this industry that don’t have our best interests.
