The Waller County Sheriff’s Office announced today (Tuesday) that 37-year-old Salvador Saucedo was discovered inside a home that was on fire in Richards, in eastern Grimes County.  The sheriff’s office believes the home, located in the 5200 block of Trinity Street, is associated with his girlfriend.

Saucedo was said to have a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and he was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Saucedo escaped the custody of the Waller County Sheriff’s Office on January 23rd while undergoing testing at MidCoast Medical Center Bellville.

According to DPS, Saucedo is a convicted sex offender from Bryan who has been wanted out of Gonzales County since this past March for indecency with a child by sexual contact.  After his escape, he faced charges of escape while arrested, assault on a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance, failure to identify as a fugitive and resisting arrest.  He was also wanted on a harassment warrant from College Station police and a Brazos County warrant for Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration Requirements.

The discovery of Saucedo in Richards prompted a lockdown for Richards ISD, who said there was no danger to students or staff.  It also follows information posted last week by the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, who said it had received a tip that Saucedo was at a residence in Richards, but that the tip was ultimately “unfounded” and that he was not believed to be in the area.

The Waller County Sheriff’s Office said the cause of the house fire is still under investigation, and that it will provide additional updates on Saucedo’s condition.
