WASHINGTON CO. CLERK’S OFFICE PRESENTS ANNUAL STATS IN 2024 REPORT
Washington County Clerk Beth Rothermel reviewed some of the county’s statistics for 2024 during her office’s annual report to county commissioners on Tuesday, her final yearly report before retiring next month.

According to Rothermel, the county recorded 403 births in 2024, down from 430 births in 2023. Recorded deaths were also down, coming in at 317 last year compared to 345 the year before.
Per Rothermel’s report, 2008 remains the high mark for recorded births, at 507. 2021 has the most recorded deaths, at 373.
The county sold 243 marriage licenses in 2024, down slightly from 246 in 2023. A total of 7,013 official public records were filed last year, a reduction from 2023’s figure of 7,662. Forty plats were filed in 2024, with 2023’s total nearly doubling that amount at 74.
The county clerk’s office collected $850,611 in 2024, including $433,154 in general fees, $333,553 in criminal fees, $47,034 in probate fees, $25,473 in civil fees and $11,396 in guardianship fees.
The total of $850,611 last year comes in below what the office collected in 2023 at $911,111. The county is keeping 88.7 percent of last year’s sum and sending the remaining 11.3 percent to the state; in 2023, the county kept 88.88 percent and paid 11.12 percent to the state.
At the conclusion of her report, Rothermel said she has always been interested in history and numbers, so she will miss being able to gather data about Washington County’s history and share not only that, but her pride in living in the county. Rothermel’s retirement is effective March 28th.
