BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO TAKE UP WATER WELL CHANGE ORDER
The Burton City Council will meet Tuesday to consider adjustments for the city’s water well project.
Councilmembers will vote on a change order request, as well as a resolution authorizing the addition of an amount not to exceed $86,500 in local funds to cover construction cost overruns between the city and C. Miller Drilling for the infrastructure improvement project.
Also at the meeting, the council will honor Harry Van Woert, who for 28 years has mowed ditches and maintained lots around the city. The agenda reads that the recognition is for Woert’s “hard work and dedication to keeping Burton clean and beautiful.”
Another item the council will look at is an ordinance providing for specific exemptions to permitting fees, as described in the city’s occupational licenses and business regulations ordinance of 2001.
In other business on Tuesday, councilmembers will:
- Accept the 2024-25 Fiscal Year audit as presented by Medack & Oltmann, LLP.
- Vote on amended 2025-26 Fiscal Year general and water/sewer budgets reflecting actual income and expenses for the second quarter of the fiscal year.
- Potentially approve the purchase of a wench and cable system to replace the broken equipment used to put the Christmas tree lights on the water tower.
- Consider deeds without warranty for the conveyance of an abandoned portion of Trinity Street off of FM 390 and for a portion of the abandoned creek easement between West Washington and East Texas Street.
- Close the seized money fund and give the money to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
- Take up a resolution providing for a nomination for the election of members to the Washington County Appraisal District Board of Directors.
The council will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Burton City Hall.
