‘ONE OF THE HARDEST DECISIONS I’VE EVER HAD TO MAKE’: LLOYD POWELL REFLECTS ON TIME WITH BRENHAM PD, CHOICE TO RETIRE
Brenham Police Chief Lloyd Powell is retiring after nearly 30 years of service in the Brenham Police Department.

Miller, speaks to the Brenham City Council at a
meeting in March 2024. Powell is retiring as
Brenham Police Chief after serving in the police
department since 1997.
Powell spoke to KWHI this (Wednesday) morning after the City of Brenham announced his plans to retire on Tuesday.
Powell says he is ready to step aside and be able to spend more time with his family, after spending much of his life in law enforcement. While he says this was “one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make”, he is confident that the police department has laid a strong foundation and is “in good hands.”
First joining the police department in August 1997 after graduating from Grambling State University, Powell ascended through the ranks of sergeant, captain, lieutenant, assistant chief, and ultimately chief, a position he has held since last July.
Powell says he is proud to have been part of the growth and development of many other officers.
Powell says he is grateful for the relationships he has been able to form with the public, along with the community’s support of him personally and the police department as a whole.
Powell says his final day is tentatively set for April 4th.
The City of Brenham says it will make an announcement soon about a retirement celebration and the city’s transition plans.
