CITADEL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, LEGACY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL ANNOUNCE PLANS TO MERGE THIS FALL

Citadel Christian School and Legacy Christian School in Brenham have announced their intent to combine their offerings, beginning this fall.

Leaders for the two schools say they have discussed the merger for over a year and that their goal is to create a stronger educational program with additional opportunities available to families.  The union will take Citadel’s traditional 5-day on-campus model and add Legacy’s university model where students spend three days on campus and two days in at-home instruction.

Citadel Head of School Sheila Suders says the two schools are thrilled to offer new ways to better meet the needs of area families.

Suders says this would also provide students with more ways to participate in athletic teams and activities.

Citadel is currently based out of Redeemer Church at 2111 South Blue Bell Road, while Legacy operates out of Cornerstone at 906 West Stone Street.  Some of the finer details, such as which campus facility or facilities will be utilized, are still being worked through.  However, Suder calls it a “priority” to have one single campus location.

Legacy Head of School Tabatha Carey says Citadel and Legacy share the same goal, similar curriculums and many of the same challenges.  She says that by working together, they can enhance the education students receive.

The community is invited to provide input on how to best shape the program.  Families interested in learning more can attend a question-and-answer session on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Redeemer Church Gymnasium.

  1. I wish just one school be it a Christian or public school would teach kids basic math and organizational skills like how to make a list and get it done in a timely manner. Is that to much to expect? Maybe BISD was over 5 million in the hole at one time. Doing the same things over and over and expecting change. What I personally expect as a taxpayer is value for dollars spent not funding jobs really not needed so if you take a vacation and no-one takes your place while your off do we need that job?

  2. Two failing institutions scrambling to keep their heads above water until they can cash in on taxpayer money.

    1. You got it right. They are hoping to get the tax money.
I think that if they receive tax money then they should not be tax exempt.
Education and religion should be separate.
      Period.

  3. I would like to see the Texas House and Senate pass a bill that reduces or eliminates School taxes on our property tax bill if you have a student in Private school and do not use the local public school system. These parents of children in Private school are actually paying double to give their children the best education possible. They should not have to pay school taxes for something they do not use. Same with people who have no children in the school system.

    1. Public schools are a public good, regardless if you have students attending. Should I only pay for county roads on which I drive? Should I get a rebate every year if I don’t call EMS or the fire department? Should the public library cut me a check to go shopping at Barnes and Noble?

  4. Brenham needs a high quality Christian school that holds true the values of Christ centered teaching while offering opportunities for strong academics, athletics, arts, and other professions at the middle school to high school level. The possibilities are endless with the right people and the future of private educational opportunities in this area. It would be wonderful to have other private schools in the area all join together to support this endeavor to give parents and students the best possible education and growing a community of well rounded individuals who will be the leaders of the community in the future.
