The groundbreaking ceremony at Fire Station No. 2 will be held on Monday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at 3007 James Nutt Boulevard.  The event is open to the public.

The city is working with Brown Reynolds and Watford (BRW) Architects to design the fire station and Collier Construction to build the station.  The facility is planned to be approximately 10,000 square feet in size and include three apparatus bays, living quarters for six personnel, an exercise room, training classroom and associated support spaces.

Mayor Atwood Kenjura says Collier has completed many other projects for the city, such as the modernization of the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library, building the Brenham Pet Adoption and Animal Care Facility, and most recently completing the Crossover Nature Trail at Hohlt Park.  He says the fire station “has been a long time coming” and will “ensure improved response times and greater coverage for the city’s growing needs.”

Construction is expected to take a year to complete.
