BRANDY ROBINSON TO BE APPOINTED AS NEW AUSTIN CO. DISTRICT ATTORNEY
Austin County First Assistant District Attorney Brandy Robinson will soon be promoted to District Attorney.
Governor Greg Abbott on Thursday announced he will appoint Robinson as Criminal District Attorney for the remainder of District Attorney Travis Koehn’s term until the next election in 2026. Koehn announced his intent to retire in January as the longest currently-serving district attorney in the state, after first being elected in 1988.
The appointment must be officially confirmed by the Senate before it takes effect.
In a release from the District Attorney’s Office, Robinson said she is grateful for all of the support and encouragement she has received, adding, “I am deeply honored to accept this appointment and the opportunity to continue doing the work that I love in the county I love.” She said, “Since 2005, I have dedicated my legal career to helping ensure the safety of Austin County citizens.”
Koehn said the appointment and confirmation process for Robinson has taken more time than initially expected, but is likely due to the legislature being in session. He said it may take a few more weeks before her appointment can be confirmed.
Koehn congratulated Robinson on her “well-earned appointment” and said he looks forward to her taking over the position once the confirmation is complete.
