The City of Brenham announced this (Thursday) morning the designation of David Gott as Administrative Head of Agency for the Brenham Police Department, beginning Tuesday, April 8th.  His formal appointment and swearing in as Interim Police Chief will be made at a later date.

Gott most recently served as Chief of Police for the Hedwig Village Police Department from January 2013 until his retirement this past September.  Prior to that, he spent over 32 years with the Houston Police Department, achieving the rank of Captain before his departure in 2013.

The city says Gott’s professional background includes extensive expertise in police management, strategic planning, and personnel development.  It also says, “He is widely recognized for his ethical leadership, calm demeanor under pressure, and exceptional communication skills—qualities that will be invaluable as he assumes this interim leadership role.”

Gott holds a bachelor’s degree from Mountain State University, and he is certified as a Master Peace Officer and Master Hostage Negotiator.

Gott steps into the Brenham Police Department as both Chief Lloyd Powell and Assistant Chief Curtiss Schoen are retiring from the department.

City Manager Carolyn Miller says the city is confident that Gott and his leadership “will provide stability and guidance during this transition period.”  She says, “His experience and expertise align with the values and mission of the Brenham Police Department.”
