ASCHENBECK GETS OFF TO GOOD START IN MINOR LEAGUE DEBUT

Evan Aschenbeck (Carrie Aschenbeck)

It was a long time coming for former Brenham Cub/Blinn Buccaneer/Texas A&M Aggie Evan Aschenbeck, who made his professional debut earlier tonight (Friday).

Aschenbeck, who was drafted by the Chicago Cubs last summer, got the start for their Class A affiliate the Myrtle Beach Pelicans against the Charleston River Dogs in Charleston, South Carolina.

He went the first four innings, allowing just three hits, one unearned run, no walks, and seven strikeouts.

Aschenbeck threw 70 pitches in the outing. He was a starter at both Brenham and Blinn. However, he converted to a reliever at A&M. The Cubs have decided they want him to be a starter again.

The Pelicans went on to win the game 13-2.
