ELECTION 2025: BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL AT-LARGE POSITION 6

With early voting now less than two weeks away for May’s municipal and school board elections, KWHI is visiting with candidates in the contested races on the local ballot.

Leah Cook

We begin our election preview series with the Brenham City Council and At-Large Position 6, where incumbent Leah Cook faces challenger Alan Lehmann.

Leah Cook was first elected to the council in 2021 and operates LJ’s BBQ along with her husband, Corey Cook, and her cousin, Matt Lowery.  She is a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and has served on its Social Concerns Committee.  She is a founding board member of the nonprofit Brenham Blessings and also serves on the boards of the Brenham Heritage Museum and Washington County Healthy Living Association.

Cook says the city has several major projects ongoing and that she wants to see those through, like the construction of Fire Station No. 2 and water system upgrades.  She emphasizes remaining open to the public and hearing all sides on issues facing the city.

Alan Lehmann

Alan Lehmann has served for decades as an instructor at Blinn College in Brenham, teaching government and history.  Earning the rank of manager at the local H-E-B while still attending Brenham High School, he went on to graduate from Texas A&M University and Sam Houston State University.  He is a longtime member of Champion Fellowship.

Lehmann says his focus is on maintaining transparency with council decision-making, securing strong police and fire departments, supporting the local library and parks, and improving transportation infrastructure.  He wants to ensure the city has strong, long-term plans in place so that it can spend wisely and grow in a positive way.

Each candidate was asked questions about their priorities for the city, ideas on how to improve city services, and the core responsibilities of serving as a councilmember.
