A&M CONSOLIDATED RALLIES TO DEFEAT CUBETTES 9-8

The Brenham Cubettes and the A&M Consolidated Lady Tigers proved that no lead is safe in District 17-5A Softball after a see-saw game that finished with Consol coming away with a 9-8 victory last (Friday) night.

The Cubettes got on the board in the first inning. Avery Maurer started the game with a lead-off double, and then came around to score on an RBI single by Sarah Mabie.

The Lady Tigers' offense erupted with a five-run inning in the bottom of the first to take a 5-1 lead.

Brenham scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 5-4. Kylie Baker drew a walk, and Sloan Tucker came in as a courtesy runner. Aldyn Jaks followed with a single. Two batters later, Laityn Davis hit a two-run single to score Tucker and Jaks. Maurer then reached on an error that allowed Davis to score.

A&M Consolidated added a run in the bottom of the fourth to increase their lead to 6-4.

Brenham cut it to a one-run game in the top of the sixth inning. Jaks reached on an error, and scored on an RBI single by Maurer to decrease the gap to 6-5.

The Cubettes went in front for the first time in the top of the seventh inning. Kinley Antkowiak reached on a single, and then came home on a two-run homer by Baker. Harper Castillo also added a solo homer to give Brenham an 8-6 lead.

However, the Lady Tigers rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game 9-8.

The loss drops the Cubettes to 14-10 overall and 5-5 in district. Brenham and A&M Consolidated are now tied for third with each team winning on their own home field.

Next up, the Cubettes will host Rudder in their final regular season home game on Tuesday. It will be Seniors Night at Alumni Field beginning at 6:30pm. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 6:05pm.
