CUBS HEAD TO BYE WEEK WITH 8-1 WIN OVER CY WOODS

For the second time in less than 24 hours, the Brenham Cub Baseball Team picked up a win. This time, it was an 8-1 Saturday afternoon road victory over the Cy Woods Wildcats.

The Cubs scored first in the top of the first inning. Dalton Hart led it off with a walk. He would then take second on a passed ball, and steal third. Drake Bentke then brought him in to score with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0 Brenham.

The Cubs would add to their total with a run in the third inning. Caleb Maurer started the inning with a single. Hart laid down a sacrifice bunt to move him to second. Maurer later took third on an error, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Grady Gee to make it 2-0.

The Brenham offense took over with four runs in the fourth inning. Landry Mendoza led it off with a double. Cannon Credeur followed with a single. Mendoza scored on a passed ball. Barrett Kohring drew a walk. Credeur scored on an error to increase the Cub lead to 4-0.

Caleb Maurer walked. He and Kohring then scored on a two-run double by Hart to give Brenham a 6-0 advantage.

The Cubs added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning. Bentke double and Mendoza singled. Cooper Reese walked to load the bases. Kohring was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, which scored Bentke. Then, Brady Rau walked with the bases loaded to score Mendoza, and make it 8-0.

Cy Woods scored on a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 8-1, which ended up being final.

Brody Hemann got the start and pitch five strong shutout innings to get the win.

Brenham is off this week for the bye the week. They will next face Iowa Colony in a non-district game on Thursday at 6pm at Fireman's park.
