Picturesque weather greeted thousands of people attending Chappell Hill’s Bluebonnet Festival this past weekend.

Chappell Hill Historical Society President Steve Trevino says the event drew an estimated 20,000 visitors between Saturday and Sunday as they enjoyed shopping at hundreds of juried arts and craft vendors, listening to live musical entertainment, and experiencing Washington County’s scenic countryside.

The festival has some of, if not the largest, tourism impact out of any event in Washington County.  It is one of two major seasonal events held by the Historical Society, the other being the fall Scarecrow Festival.

Trevino says proceeds from these festivals go to support the preservation of local historic buildings and properties, such as Providence Baptist Church, the Rock Store, the Circulating Library and the Historical Society Museum.  They also help fund future Historical Society programs and activities.
