ESCAPEE FROM BEHAVIORAL HOSPITAL SENTENCED TO 35 YEARS FOR FAMILY VIOLENCE
A man who escaped from custody at a behavioral hospital in Houston in March has been sentenced in Grimes County for a domestic violence charge.
36-year-old Scott Evan Shepple pleaded guilty on Friday in 12th District Court to a third degree felony offense of Assault Family Violence by Impeding Breath. He was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
According to the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office, the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office responded on August 22, 2024 to a report of assault family violence in Iola. A female victim, who was in a relationship with Shepple, stated that he had beaten and choked her before fleeing the scene. The woman provided security footage that captured the assault.
In December, officials found Shepple in Iola. After an interview, Shepple confessed to the allegations and was taken into custody after resisting arrest.
On March 31st, Shepple escaped from Cypress Creek Behavioral Hospital, but he was brought back into custody after a 19-hour manhunt. Harris County opted not to pursue an escape charge.
Shepple faced an enhanced punishment range due to previous felony convictions. He will be required to serve half of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
