FRIENDS OF MAIFEST PICNIC KICKS OFF 135TH YEAR OF FESTIVAL
The 135th edition of the Brenham Maifest officially got underway on Wednesday with the Friends of Maifest Kick-off Picnic at Fireman’s Park.
Guests enjoyed German food and refreshments, a children’s Maipole dance and a ribbon cutting to signify the opening of Maifest. The picnic is held each year to honor the sponsors of Maifest and the volunteers who work to make Maifest possible.
Five Washington County seniors were presented with $1,000 scholarships by the Brenham Maifest Association. They are Avery Applewhite, Mikayla Hernandez, Alex Lawhorn, Kailyn Shugart and Trevion Wills.
Today (Thursday) is the first day of the carnival on the Maifestival grounds, opening at 5 p.m. It will also be open tomorrow (Friday) at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m.

The senior coronation is scheduled for tomorrow at 7 p.m. The junior coronation will be Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
The Junior Royalty of Elizabeth Grace “Ellie” Alfred and Everett Alexander McCarty Gonzales will reign over the court of “The Wonderful Things We Imagine”. The Senior Royalty of Emerson “Emmie” Taylor Behrens and Henry Latham Stopschinski will reign over the court of “Summer of a Lifetime”.
Saturday will begin with the Maifest parade through downtown Brenham at 10:30 a.m. KWHI will have a live broadcast of the parade starting at 10:05 a.m. and will livestream it on Facebook. The broadcast is sponsored by Tres Chic Boutique. Afterwards, the festival grounds at Fireman’s Park will open for music, dancing, beer tasting and games.
Featured entertainment this weekend will be The Czechaholics and the Brown Sugar Band tomorrow. Saturday’s performances will come from The Oompahs, Das Ist Lustig, Isaak Klaus and the Lederhosen Junkies, and the David Reynolds Band.
