There are two council races on the City of Brenham ballot. Ward 1 incumbent Shannan Canales is challenged by Steve Soman, while At-Large Position 6 incumbent Leah Cook faces challenger Alan Lehmann. There are also 12 charter amendment propositions for consideration.
The Brenham School Board has three contested races, two of which are to fill the seat of an outgoing incumbent. Position 5 trustee Tommie Sullivan is not running for re-election, and his seat will be occupied by either David Jantzi or Shawn Koonce. Position 6 incumbent Natalie Lange also did not seek another term, so her position will be filled by either Justin Colley or Mike Garner. Position 7 incumbent Jared Krenek is running against Walt Edmunds.
On the Burton City Council, there are three seats up for election. Mayor Karen Buck is opposed by Position 3 Councilmember Jeff Eckhardt. Position 1 incumbent Nathan Kalkhake faces challenger Chuck Johnson, while Position 4 councilmember Paul McLaughlin is running against Berneake Gantt.
Finally, voters living inside the service territories of the Chappell Hill and Meyersville VFDs can choose whether to approve the creation of an ESD. The ESD would levy an ad valorem tax of up to $0.10 per $100 valuation on residents within those fire districts, not counting people living within the City of Brenham’s extraterritorial jurisdiction. If approved, the ESD would become the primary source of funding for the two fire departments.
KWHI will have live election coverage tonight once polls close at 7 p.m. on AM 1280, FM 101.7 and kwhi.com.
