SEARCH EFFORTS CONTINUE FOR BRENHAM CHILD SWEPT AWAY BY FLOODWATERS
Water rescue crews are restarting their search this (Tuesday) morning for a 10-year-old girl who was swept away by rapidly rising floodwaters Monday afternoon in Brenham.
Over a dozen agencies responded starting around 4:30 p.m. Monday, and they spent the evening searching the area near the Burleson Street bridge, extending toward Old Independence Road.
Search efforts continued overnight, utilizing land-based crews, drones with thermal imaging technology, and canine units.
The City of Brenham says four Swift Water Rescue Teams resumed operations at 5:30 a.m. today, including teams from Washington County Search and Rescue and Texas Task Force 1 – Conroe and San Antonio divisions. Canine units continue their ground search, and drones are actively scanning the area. Texas Parks and Wildlife and DPS aircraft and drones are enroute to assist from the air.
The city and Brenham ISD ask the community to continue keeping the child, her family and first responders in their thoughts and in their prayers.
According to Brenham ISD, the child was a student at Brenham Elementary School. The district says counseling and support services will be available for students and staff.
