BURTON SCHOOL BOARD HONORS OUTSTANDING TEACHERS, STAFF MEMBERS

Named the Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year were the late Kimberly Applewhite and Pamela Wise.
Recipients of Elementary and Secondary Paraprofessional of the Year were Ann Knittel and Michele Ebner.
The Auxiliary Staff Member of the Year is Patricia Merryman. The Leadership Award was presented to Melinda Fuchs.
Administrator of the Year honors went to Ashley Countouriotis. The Above and Beyond Award winner was Anna Preuss.
Trustees also recognized several student groups, including participants in FFA, basketball, golf, track and academic UIL contests.
In discussion, the board revisited the topic of local leave days provided to employees, specifically whether the district should allow them to accumulate days so that they do not feel pressured to use them before the days expire.
Some trustees voiced openness to allowing accumulation but wished to wait until next month’s meeting to continue talks, in order to give more time to receive updated budget information and to allow board members who were not present at the meeting to give their thoughts.
